Missi Stone's Lord of the Rings Project
‘Leaving the Shire’, by Missi Stone.
Missi’s Comment: It’s at this point in the tale where Frodo and Sam must leave the Shire in order to start their journey, and they begin to have doubts as to whether they really want to leave. Though they were filled with anticipation at the thought of adventure when they were in Bag End, actually making the decision to leave is much more difficult. In my painting, I portray two paths that they can take. One is to turn around and lose possession of the ring in favour of a peaceful life. The other is the path that they know they must take, a dangerous journey that they may never complete. Meanwhile, this decision is contrasted with the beautiful fall day that was occurring, causing their choice to be even more heart-breaking.
I am no Bro, by Noelle Stevenson of gingerhaze.
Missi’s Comment: While this is a completely unrealistic portrayal of Eowyn, I still have to admit that it’s one of my favourite pieces of Lord of the Rings fan art out there because it has updated Eowyn into modern times. Not to mention that it’s part of the on-going Broship of the Rings series by Noelle Stevenson.
